We cannot create unity, but we can enter into the unity already created.   Who has made this unity for man, you might wonder?  You might reason, and rightly so, “If man is already condemned, serving his sentence, then man surely cannot exit his ‘jail cell’ to solve the emnity between God and all of manking.”  So then who has broken down this separating wall between God and man?  The answer is clear.  There is only one who could do such a marvelous, selfless and truly loving work.  It is none other than the man, Christ Jesus.  God sent His Son, the only begotten Son of God and God the Son, to become a man, but He never stopped being God.  God became flesh and was born in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago.  He lived the perfect life, the life God created man to live.  Jesus was without sin, and chose to died the death we deserve.  “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.   Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”  Romans 5:8-10  It is not man’s foolish trust in himself and all the lies he can conceive that will bring reconciliation with God, rather it is the truth found in Jesus Christ alone that has done this for us.

Only the truth can set men free, and only the truth can unite those who have entered into this freedom.  Jesus says in John 8:31-32, “If you continue in My Word, then are you My disciples indeed, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”    Again, in the New Testament book of Ephesians, it says, “But now in Christ Jesus you who sometimes were far off are made near by the blood of Christ. For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in Himself of two, one new man, so making peace; And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby…” Ephesians 2:13-16

Our peace has been already obtained: historically, positionally, and  personally.  It is up to each one of us to decide if we desire to enter into that peace with God through His Son Jesus Christ, laying down the old, rebellious flesh, allowing Him to create in us a new heart and mind, a new attitude toward both God and men.  We may also choose to remain outside of God’s peace, continuing in our futile attempts to create some kind of conscience-searing unity with other like-minded sinners.   It is up to you.   As for me and my house, we will choose Life!  Jesus Christ says in the book of John, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father, but by Me.”  John 14:6

Which will you choose-  The unity that has been eternally provided by the Creator and Savior or the futile attempts made by rebellious men?  You cannot choose both.  It is my prayer that we will all choose wisely.

Romans 10:9-10  says, “That if you shalt confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, you shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

And for those who have already entered into this peace, keep in mind there is no option to create unity.  Rather we are called to keep the unity which has already been afforded us by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We are to keep the unity in the Spirit, but never create it.  Ephesians 4:3 The world will offer many promises in the hopes of swaying our stand upon the Solid Rock, some subtle and some not so subtle.  Many today are saying something like this, “For the Christian to be accepted by the popular majority he must lay down his silly notions that Jesus Christ is the only Way.  Instead he must cry out that Jesus is merely one of many ways.”  We who have truly put our faith and trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the Cross, believing He has paid for our sins once and for all, must never think we can somehow create unity with the world.  Unity was completed at the cross and that peace was made between God and man.  Read John 17. Christians are to call men out of this world to heavenly citenzenship, never bowing down to this world’s foolish, God-hating notions. Jesus said, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword [division].”  Matthew 10:34   And the framework for this everlasting and heavenly unity, which will bring division on this dark planet, can only be found in the Truth of God and His Word- The Bible.  We enter by His grace, through faith; are compelled by His love, and we are united in His Truth and His Truth alone!   May we never cease to encourage one another in keeping this unity in the Spirit of Truth, in the bond of peace.

“If so be that you have heard Him, and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus.”  Ephesians 4:21
